Masters in safety

Our safety policy: a strong foundation, constantly evolving
At Smulders, safety is paramount across all the sectors in which we operate. Our strength lies not only in delivering impressive projects on time and to the highest quality standards, but also in doing so with the utmost respect for our people, their safety, and well-being.
We apply our expertise and ever-evolving safety culture not just for the benefit of our own employees. We actively involve subcontractors and customers in our safety approach as well. This is achieved through workshops, joint safety observations, and by inviting them to take part in our annual Safety Awareness Week. Together, we create a working environment where safety is a shared responsibility – and where everyone is encouraged to make a proactive contribution. The ‘Stop the Job’ principle is well known to everyone who visits our sites, and we strongly encourage its active use.
Positive safety culture
Our expertise is built on an integrated safety system that primarily follows these standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and Safety Culture Ladder. We adapt these standards to suit our specific environment, employees, and stakeholders – and we transform them into the foundation of a positive safety culture. This culture is supported by ongoing commitments, including:
- Protecting the well-being of everyone who works at or visits our facilities.
- Preventing personal injury through thorough accident analysis and targeted actions.
- Meeting client needs by using insights from safety statistics and incident reports.
- Working in accordance with our Life Saving Rules.
- Constantly refining and improving the effectiveness of our safety policies.
- Supporting all supply chain activities in close cooperation with subcontractors and customers.
- Actively engaging employees and stakeholders at every level through clear, transparent communication
From corporate values to safety values
Our safety culture is deeply rooted in our corporate values: decisiveness, innovation, respect, expertise, customer focus, and teamwork. We have translated these values into clear safety expectations for both managers and employees.
We expect everyone to embody these (safety) values and to be fully committed to upholding our Code of Conduct and this policy. Smulders provides the necessary training and support to ensure that all stakeholders are informed, engaged, and equipped with the right skills to contribute to a safe working environment.
