Substation topside for Hollandse Kust (west Beta) on its way to final destination
This past Saturday, the substation topside for the Hollandse Kust (west Beta) offshore wind farm, developed by TenneT, was successfully loaded out.
The transport on a pontoon then went via the Scheldt and the Western Scheldt towards the North Sea.
This week, the topside, weighing more than 3,500 tons, will be installed 50 kilometers off the coast of Egmond aan Zee. The jacket has been firmly anchored to the seabed there since May last year.
On location, the large crane on the installation vessel Sleipnir will lift the 45-meter-long, 20-meter-wide, and 25-meter-high structure from the floating pontoon and place it on the jacket. Subsequently, the topside and the jacket will be welded together and connected to the electricity grid in the coming months. This brings the completion of the third and final 700 megawatt platform, built by Smulders and Equans for TenneT, within reach.
These platforms form part of the Dutch government’s goal to meet 40% of the country’s electricity demand with offshore wind. Our client TenneT plays a key role in making this possible by developing large-scale grid connections in the Dutch North Sea.
