Borkum Riffgrund & Gode Wind 3

Ørsted

North Sea, Germany

For the two German wind farms Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3 (GOW 3), Smulders manufactured 107 transition pieces (TPs). These wind farms are located in the German North Sea off the coast of the islands of Borkum and Norderney and are being built simultaneously by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure.

Of the 107 TPs, we built one as the foundation for the offshore substation. The other 106 wind turbine foundations each consist of a SIP unit, anode cage, monopile door and frame, boatlanding and external ladder. By 2023, our equipped TPs were ready to be installed offshore.

Gode Wind 3 will consist of 23 turbines and Borkum Riffgrund 3 of 83. It is estimated that they will be operational in 2025. With a capacity of 913 MW, Borkum Riffgrund 3 is Germany's largest wind farm to date. Together, both wind farms account for 1,166 MW, which makes it possible to power at least 1.2 million families  for a year.
