Together with Eiffage Infra-Bau, Smulders constructed the bridge structure for the intersection of 2 motorways in Darmstadt, Germany. In this project, Smulders was responsible for the steel construction of the bridges.
Both the Nord and Südrampe were replaced due to age and lack of lanes.
The execution of this project faced some challenges. One of the biggest was moving the bridge. After the steel construction and painting works were completed, the bridge sections were transported to the final location. At an pre-location, the bridges were further assembled so that they could be moved in half-finished. After that, they were fully finished at the final location.
By working in this way, we were able to ensure the traffic was never closed for too long.
The last section of the Südrampe was successfully moved in on 27 April 2024. The work is complete, and the bridge is ready to be fully commissioned by the end of 2024.
