
Another Offshore Converter Platform to be built by NSORe
Eiffage, through its Belgian subsidiary Smulders, as a member of the NSORe joint venture (Neptun Smulders Offshore Renewables) has been awarded by 50Hertz (the transmission system operator in the north and east of Germany) a second contract for an offshore converter platform.
NSORe is an equal joint venture between Smulders and Neptun Werft, part of the Meyer Werft, dedicated to HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) offshore substation projects.
In June 2026, NSORe, as part of a consortium with Siemens Energy, had already been awarded by 50Hertz the contract to build a 2-gigawatt converter station for the LanWin6 offshore grid connection project. The new contract also involves the construction of a 2 GW converter platform destinated to the LanWin3 project in the North Sea.
As with LanWin6, Siemens Energy will be responsible for supplying the high-voltage components for the newly awarded LanWin3 project. NSORe is responsible for the complete implementation and turnkey delivery of the facilities. This includes overall system design, component procurement, construction, installation onshore and offshore, as well as commissioning.
Key components such as the topside, the main building of the offshore platform, are to be constructed at the NSORe’s Rostock-Warnemünde shipyard. Smulders will manufacture the steel substructure (jacket) at its own shipyard in Vlissingen in The Netherlands.
These two contracts will enable the generation of significant volumes of offshore wind power from the North Sea for the German electricity grid. They also strengthen NSORe’s position as a key partner in offshore wind projects.
We are very pleased about this follow-up order. It reflects the growing importance of offshore energy infrastructure and further strengthens the position of NSORe as a key player in the energy transition. By combining the expertise and production capabilities of our sites in Rostock and Vlissingen, we are well positioned to successfully deliver both projects on schedule and to the highest quality standards.
With our LanWin3 and LanWin6 projects, we are creating the conditions needed to securely integrate large volumes of offshore wind energy from the North Sea into the German power grid. As the client for 2 GW converter platforms, we require strong partners and robust industrial structures, both of which are available in Rostock-Warnemünde. With this second contract, we are further strengthening the entire value chain in the region and helping to advance the energy transition at sea. From a political perspective, the next step must be to further refine the Offshore Wind Energy Act to provide planning certainty and prevent delays in the construction of offshore wind farms.
