Equinor and Polenergia owned joint venture companies leading the development of the Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind farms, located in the Baltic Sea, have signed a contract with the consortium of Smulders and Sif for the manufacturing of 100 transition pieces for both projects.
Smulders and Sif will collaborate on the fabrication, including shop design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning. Sif will manufacture the primary steel tubulars, including flanges, at its facility in Roermond, the Netherlands. We will handle the secondary steel scope, coating, electrical system and testing and commissioning. The secondary steel will be produced by our facilities in Poland. Final assembly will take place at our yard in Hoboken, Belgium.
Bałtyk 2&3 are two separate projects with a planned installed capacity of 720 MW each (jointly 1440 MW). The offshore wind farms will be installed in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea and are located approximately 37 km (Bałtyk 2) and 22 km (Bałtyk 3) off the Polish coast. Upon completion, the combined wind farms will supply up to two million households with green energy.
Smulders was also awarded the contract for the design, procurement and construction of both offshore substations.
