Hollandse Kust (west Alpha)
Tennet
North Sea, the Netherlands
On behalf of TenneT, the joint venture Smulders - EQUANS constructed the offshore substation (consisting of the topside and jacket) for the Hollandse Kust (west Alpha) Offshore Wind Farm.
Smulders was responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the topside and jacket. All works were performed in-house at our various yards in Belgium (Arendonk, Balen and Hoboken) and the Netherlands (Vlissingen). The final assembly of the topside was performed at the EQUANS yard in Hoboken. The jacket was completely assembled in Vlissingen.
The topside, weighing 3,600 tons, left the yard in September 2023 and was successfully placed onto the jacket which was already installed in August 2022.
Since 2024, the wind farm, with a total capacity of 756 MW, is fully operational and supplies green power to the Netherlands.
The joint venture was also responsible for the construction of TenneT's two offshore substations namely Hollandse Kust (west Beta) - under construction and Hollandse Kust (noord) - already completed.
