newsflash
On Friday 14 June, the bicycle bridge “Cycling through the trees” was officially opened. Smulders was the general contractor of this unique bridge.
Near cycling junction 272 in Hechtel-Eksel (Belgium), you can now cycle amongst the crests of the pines, up to 10 meters high. Over the past months, Smulders has built this unique bicycle bridge between the pines. The bridge, a double circle with a diameter of 100 meters, is a floating spiral of about 700 meters long.
By using weathering steel, the bridge detracts as little as possible from the surrounding nature in terms of appearance, construction and material.
The steel construction was mostly built at our facility in Balen and assembled on site afterwards.
