Smulders, together with Iv and HSM Offshore Energy, has been awarded the EPCIC contract for the high-voltage substations for the Princess Elisabeth Island, the world’s first artificial energy island off the Belgian coast by transmission system operator Elia.

This groundbreaking project includes designing and constructing four high-voltage AC substations, a facility module, and a garage.

The energy island, located approximately 45 kilometers off the coast, will combine direct current (HVDC) and alternating current (HVAC), serving as a hub for wind farm export cables and future interconnectors with Great Britain and Denmark.
